Last email from Lisa said the teachers had been giving priority to register for the vaccine at Mt Sinai, but we've had no communication since then about returning in person. Think the teachers are claiming it will be too dangerous, even after they've been vaccinated? Moving the goal posts in some other way? my poor kiddo is dying to go back :-(

Did she say HCHS teachers specifically had priority over other nyc teachers? That seems questionable
No. Just looked back at the email, I remembered wrong. She said that a parent had offered to help with the sign-up process at Sinai. Doesn't sound like they're cutting the line - it's the same process that all teachers are eligible for.
based on a zoom with Tony earlier this week: they'd like to, a lot of the faculty are getting vaxxed and they have had the building plans for winter conditions approved. They are going to focus on getting 7th and 8th grades back first, and it won't happen before february break. my guess? at least those grades will be back in May and June when its a lot easier to use outside space.
So they spent a ton of time and money making the building safe for re-opening in winter and then they're going to keep it sealed shut until May? Classic.
Also, what's the justification for waiting until May if the faculty is getting vaccinated in January...??
ETA: It really infuriates me that teachers are being prioritized for vaccination and then don't have to come into work. They should be giving vaccines to people who have no choice, not snowflake HCHS teachers.
@anonymous the May return is MY guess, it isn't based on anything the admin said. I think the administration would like to get kids back sooner and invested in the building to reduce potential objections from faculty.
@anonymous well, the elementary kids have been using the building this whole time, including areas of the high school, so it wasn't exactly a waste of money
