My predictions - Non-SHSAT high schools will be allowed to create their own admissions policies. Many will go lottery; some may create a virtual application process (essay, portfolio, Zoom interview). DeBlasio will propose getting rid if the SHSAT; Cuomo will override him and reschedule it for February in hopes that we'll have a vaccine by then. G&T will be cancelled for the year - DeB will say it's for one year only - and the seats will be filled by lottery, with preference going to siblings, so current families will be happy enough (getting your kid into NEST without a test is a pretty good deal). Middle school admissions will go lottery within districts.
@anonymous That's very plausible except there are absolutely no criteria to use for MS and HS admissions. There were no grades, no attendance and no state tests. I think everything will go lottery except for performing arts schools and SHSAT schools.
@anonymous It is not like Carranza &Co are "eager" to keep the G&T on track. They will use any excuse they have to scrap it. What exactly is the excuse for dragging the feet on finishing the contract for testing, the registration for which should have started a week ago, but did not?
It is mid October and DOE has *****STILL****** not finished the contract for testing K G&T kids....
"Parents traditionally register for the test in October. Chancellor shared last week that the DOE will make the admissions announcement in “mid to late October”. But if there is no contract with the G&T test provider, how will enrollment be determined to fill the G&T seats in September 2021? Will there be adequate time, support, and outreach for families to learn about the program? The lack of clarity and transparency on this issue adds additional stress to families on top of the enormous chaos and hardships of school reopening and the upcoming school year."
@anonymousYou do get that this testing was a bloomberg initiative that has only existed for 10 years or so, right?
I have a kid at a citywide but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone with a brain who thinks standardized testing for 4 yr olds works and is a good idea.
LOL at the poor, underserved residents of Flushing, Queens! A district with uniformly great public schools! No school in D25 gets less than a 7, and most are 9/10.
You are correct. They have made no announcements about G&T, middle school admissions, HS admissions, SHSAT, etc. The DOE is a total shit show.
Carranza will cut the programs and it will disappear. It's a shame they couldn't find a better way to handle this.
He's trying his hardest. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

DOE has said they are going to issue details by the end of the month.
Yeah, I mean it's not like they've been busy reopening a school system the size of Dallas. This board is unreal sometimes...

Even Bloomberg acknowledged it was a failure.

I tried e-mailing and calling and got no reply from the DOE.
