Does anyone know what percentage of kids get an interview? And if you're totally unconnected, do you know how they pick who gets one? Also, in terms of admissions, any idea of how many kids apply for the K spots? I keep hearing it's basically impossible to get in, but wondering what makes it so different than other Ks.

For reference I think 13 applied from our preschool, believe 5 were interviewed (includes 1 sibling and 1 legacy)
Our year they had 8 spots for "unconnected" boys. And honestly, it's a billionaires club, so not worth bothering!
I'm guessing Trinity has admitted all their legacy and siblings for K now, right? Anyone on the inside know how many spots might be left?
Trinity takes almost no unconnected kids in K and they do you a favor, return your check and don't waste your time. They are also known to get rid of underperformers by end of middle school and make a ton of room for high achieving unconnected kids in High School. We didn't get an interview in K and missed our interview for HS (very good reason), they gave us another interview slot and admitted dc. They know what they want and only interview viable candidates -- I appreciate that.
This is very good to know. I guess our chances are pretty much nil, ha.
The fact that Trinity has been so mixed in its re-opening plan makes me think that maybe their robust public service program has the older kids busy focusing on helping underserved children in the public schools...you never know!
This was one of the more egregious puff pieces that the NYT regularly publishes about Trinity; not sure of the family connection but undoubtedly many among the staff at both institutions:

If you're asking why it is the way it is, I would say it's mostly about preserving a donation flow through good times and bad.
The rumor is correct. They have a very strong sibling/legacy policy and it's basically impossible to get in otherwise.
They interview 400ish families per the website. No idea how many applications they get or how they choose who to interview. Rumor is they have about 40 siblings this year without counting legacy. 60ish spots for k.
"That left 17 spaces for families with no ties to Trinity, giving those without connections a 2.4 percent shot at the prize."
