@anonymous this is so obnoxious. Many peopke would like to be in florida in winter! but we can't afford it. So if you think there will be a second Wave and you are fortunate enough to escape it, perhaps you can find another way to express yourself. On this board are single moms, essential workers, people without child care, people Living In small apartments - who will be stuck here. be Kind.
I really hope not as our schools hasn't even opened yet! It was a stupid plan to "phase in" to be open around the height of flu season and miss the early fall good weather.
Mine either. They are planning for an October opening. I will be so angry if they have to shut down right after because of flu season. Things are great right now, there is no reason they cannot be open, and they are wasting this time.
I agree with the above posters that it won’t likely end over MLK weekend.. january has always been the month when a large number of the kids in my sons school have been out sick. Then February. Those are big flu months and so unlikely that if remote starts in November it will end in January. I personally think we are remote until at least March..then vaccine comes and teachers get them, then maybe We open full time... hopefull!
Any chance this will be a milder flu season because the same measures we are taking against Covid spread will guard against flu spread? Or I am just overly optimistic?
IMO, this flu season will not be like others simply because of the behavioral changes. With social distancing, mask wearing, and handwashing, I think the flu cases will drop significantly compared to prior years. Hopefully more people will take the flu vaccine as well.
@Anonymous Then why are schools thinking of shutting down during flu season? Are they thinking they won't be able to tell cases of flu from covid and there will be significant disruption? If SD measures prevent COVID, they will prevent flu so I'm just wondering why we can't go on as we have been unless there is an outbreak.
We're starting to look at our options for a warm weather stay this winter. Thinking maybe the USVI or Puerto Rico so we can get in some sailing and outdoor time. Remote learning is really just teacher facilitated homeschooling and I would rather do that somewhere that makes for an interesting life experience.
Does anyone else think this is to accommodate entitles parents vacation plans? How can they know already what November will bring. If the think mask wearing and distancing can’t help stop flu than they should be remote now. Which is it? This really bothers me.
It's absolutelty about travel. While some of it may be because they can't control families going to Aspen/Miami, etc. nearly everyone will want to see family over the holidays and there will just be more travel in general.
For those privates that haven’t announced remote for the holiday period - unless infection rates go up - they can’t really change to remote bc it would sound strange to come out and say that they are moving to remote to accomodate travel plans. it would make them look bad bc that would mean they are saying that “we give in to those families who want to or can travel at the expense of in person School”. That would just sound like their priorities are very messed up!
I think we'll be in the middle of the second wave by then, and ALL schools in the tri-state area will be remote.
We are already planning to be in Florida for the duration.
@anonymous Horace Mann is going that and planned for that from the get go. What other privates are doing that?
@anonymous Riverdale and Poly too -- announced from beginning

Yes, our school has not explicitly said that but I'm planning for that to happen.

Are these new announcements or is it that you are just hearing of these old announcements?
I think it will be much longer than this. Early November through summer
Remote early November through end if academic year?!?
@anonymous +1, this is what I expect too

@Anonymous yes I think so. But either way Covid is the big risk
