My dc started at a new school this year and report card is subpar. This may be silly, but what sort of questions should I ask when we “meet” with teachers. I’m drawing a blank...
Strengths/weaknesses, goals for the year, when did they get an indication that dc wasn't doing well, and is there a way to bring you in so that you could have helped before mid-term grades? Is the issue that dc isn't doing well, or that the other kids are ahead of expectations? Ask if a tutor would help. Ask what you can do going forward so that you're not surprised by the performance on the report card -- how can you work together to bring the grades up? What do they need you to do at home? Then set a time for a check in.

Wow, thank you for such a detailed response! I think it’s because the kids are very self driven at this school and let’s just say dc is not. 😞
It's ok -- it will come. Until it comes internally, try offering external rewards :) GL!
