Does anyone here know of a private elementary age NOT open 5 days after spring break? Ours is not opening 5 days after spring break and I think it's insane. curious if this applies to any other school.
Can you explain, OP? Ours is doing testing. If you come back from travel (or never leave) by Fri, you have COVID test on Mon; Sat you test Tues; Sun you test Wed. All test results come back the day after testing because swabs are at school but actual tests are run in a nearby lab. A kid who doesn’t test until Wed can’t come back until Fri but the school itself is open.
Ours has not said that, but has not indicated that there will be any move to full-time in school anytime soon. Furthermore, they have suggested that it might be hybrid starting in the fall, and they can't do anything about it unless CDC changes six-feet SD requirements. Not enough space, they say. Parents are infuriated.
Wow, I am supportive of the week remote. Almost everyone I know is traveling for the break and using this as a time to take risks that they can't take while school is in session.
@anonymous Almost everyone you know is traveling? I agree that the schools should do a remote week for everyone to account for those traveling, but why are so many people traveling during a pandemic? I would think people would want to wait until it's (hopefully) safer later in the year.
@Anonymous NP: Everyone I know is thinking about traveling too. It's been a long year and a cold winter. Many private school families can afford all the quick tests, and private travel. But I think people just can't stand the thought of two more weeks at home in winter
nothing has been said yet but we were remote for two weeks after winter break and then another two weeks courtesy of 2 case rule, so in January, DC was in building for all of four days. not looking forward to spring break.
which school is that? ours hasn't said anything, but i don't see why many wouldn't do a week or two of remote like they did after xmas.
Because teachers will be vaccinated and kids aren't spreading. I sure hope we don't have two weeks of remote school!! That's crazy!

op - ours has said it will be hybrid for the rest of the year. I just dont understand why not back to full time.

@Anonymous Holy cow. which school is that?
Ours is remote 4/5-4/9, reopening (pending testing) 4/12.
Many schools are taking a remote week
Ours says it will not be remote after spring break (even though it was after winter break)
Ours is remote for a week after break. It's infuriating - 3 weeks no school again

I wrote to our school because of this! We are planning on in-person. Period.

Our school is going remote for two weeks after spring break.
