all our money is tied up in this school and they wont open full time. My kid has had about 7 in person days since early last march. I literally CANNOT work even remotely in the way they have hired me to work and I cannot afford to send them to another private school bc i am paying already for one private school. We have to have a nanny literally sit in our tiny NYC apartment to help them do the remote school and I am running out of money bc i never budgeted for full time private school AND nanny. I truly do not understand how any of this is supposed to work and I am losing my mind. How is this working for other people?
My kids are in Public home since March. I can not do my job with 3 kids home so I quit. It’s 100k hit on our HHI and fkn ridiculous. These teachers are refusing to go back and saying they will quit
I am so sorry!!! I thought most of the schools were open?? Maybe you can share a nanny with one of his classmates ?
that just gets so confusing with the exposure piece and our apt isn't big enough to have yet another kid playing while we both take meetings. It's just insane at this point. I'm soooo frustrated.
are you zoned for a good public ? i switched 2 kids from private to public this year. 1st and prek. I just didn’t want to pay for potentially remote school. And we’ve been really happy with it. It was a tough start with not knowing if schools would close but it’s a lot easier to be forgiving when you’re not paying. Kids love the new school, we have a full time nanny and they go 2-3 days a week. Nothing you can do for this year but why not consider saving the money going forward.
yes def considering going fwd. This year though as you say the pubic isn't fully open either.
No, dh made a joke that we are not paying not to learn this year :-)
How old are your kids? Is your child unable to manage logging in etc alone? We are in private K that’s been mostly in person with a few remote days (phase in and now after the holiday for people to quarantine) but DC is able to manage completely independently. They spent phase in time early in the fall teaching kids to zoom in and it’s been pretty much flawless. Can you speak up to have school spend more time teaching kids to be independent With zoom?
Can't tell if you are serious or not, but a "completely independent" K student is a unicorn. And it's a lot more than Zoom that is involved with the school work!
I have a 1st grade ds and he will happily log in and participate on zoom. I enjoy listening in when I can. He will not do ANY independent work on remote days though. Not sure if other kids this age do but I got a tutor for the remote days and that is going smoothly. Otherwise half his days would be wasted. Which isn’t such a big deal for a first grader in any case but since I wanted to have things go well I got a tutor.
@Anonymous where did you get a tutor who will come only on certain days?
I hear you, but the school year is half over now. Hang in there. Surely things will be better in the fall.
It's not about hang in there - I will lose my job. I literally cannot do my job the way things are - certainly not another 9 mos like this until sept rolls around. Idk about these kids who have totally independent days aged 5 and 6 but find it hard to imagine whoever is parenting them has back to back meetings all day or not sure they would be describing it as such.
Talk to The school and ask for a break on tuition
