As if remote learning for pre-k wasn't idiotic enough, but I just learned that PREK STUDENTS WILL BE ZOOMING THE TEACHER DURING IN PERSON SCHOOL!! I'm livid. My children's pre-k has three teachers and two cohorts. One teacher is responsible for remote learning. At first I thought, excellent! I thought that the 1/2 sized class size would make the remote learning more effective. HA! I was WRONG! Now I see that she will be teaching the IN PERSON students via ZOOM at the SAME TIME as the remote students. So now everyone loses! I just can't.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother with any remote "learning" prior to elementary school.
I wrote off remote days, having only a small glimmer of hope that it would be worthwhile. But now even in person time is wasted. UGH.
@Anonymous I'm so sorry.
How does a teacher teach in-person PreK kids via Zoom? I'm not sure if I understand. You mean the teacher IS in the classroom teaching those kids in-person while broadcasting it to the remote kids?
To clarify. Teacher A is remote at all times. Teacher B and C are in the class at all times. Cohorts 1 and 2 rotate days in the classroom remote and in the classroom. When Cohort 1 is with Teacher B and C in the classroom, both Cohort 1 and 2 learn with Teacher A who is teaching zoom.
Got it, thanks. It does sound like a joke though, since there are teachers in the classroom, why can't they just teach those in-person kids? This is PreK, not college math.
@anonymous Exactly, a joke. I'm wondering if I put up some protest, or to just keep quiet.
It's preK. I'd honestly roll with whatever.
I don't care about her learning, but having her sit in a class while there are teachers right there, but rather look at a screen is just so wasteful. I'm also working full time, so it would have been nice if remote days were a little bit engaging. They have the resources to do it, but aren't.
@Anonymous I'm with you - it's not really about learning, but rather interacting with other people, NOT a screen.
@anonymous +2. In pre-K, I'd be happier if they were engaged somehow, even if it is games or exercise. Or just drawing. Anything but staring at a screen.
