I'd like to know how the experience has been so far -- smooth, not smooth? Any problems with the kids following the rules? Are the kids happy? Do you think in-person teaching is better than remote despite the restrictions? Any positives in the school?
If you can, please say how old your kids are and name your school (if you're not willing to name, describe it a little).
My private is remote because they wanted to see how things played out this month with other schools (though no idea what they are looking for), so I'd like to see how things are going.
I don't want to jinx things, but it is going so well. 1st and 4th. I thought the kids would mind wearing masks all day, but they don't. They talk and socialize with kids in class, and that's great. I also wrote on here how they have zoom during class, but I've since learned that zoom during class is totally different (and better than) zoom at home. They project the zoom teacher on the big board, and just have laptops on the desk so the teacher can see them. But when they talk, they are talking to the class, not just a screen. They have a teacher there to assist them. They have covered so much curriculum in 1 week, I can't see how they could have done as much remotely.
The opening has gone very very smoothly. One DC in middle school. No zoom at all except for a few students who opted for remote learning. All DC in class listening to rules, understand them, and are adhering to them. No complaints at all. Amazed at faculty ... so thankful. Administration is very strong so I am not surprised at this result.
Downtown private - elementary school. It is going really great. Kids are LOVING being back in school with their friends. They just started this week, so lots of learning the rules and getting to know teachers, but kids could not be happier. They do not care at all about wearing their masks. A few families who had decided to go all remote have already come back in the first week, not because the school was failing at zooming them in, but because they could see how much better it was for the kids to be in school right now.
That is great. Are they allowing kid to come back whenever they want? Our school has certain entry points.
As it was the first week and not really disruptive, they were allowed to come back. But school has said that they will work with each family on a case-by-case basis moving forward to determine timing if families want to come back. They don't want kids going in/out of the class constantly because mom and dad now want to take a few weeks and work from Connecticut or something.
LREI K parent. This week was 3 days "forrest schol", two days zoom. They are actually going to 5 days forrest (ie live, outside) starting next week. I am deeply grateful to the school for trying.
DD is in HS at Avenues and they've been 5 days a week for two weeks now and it seems great so far. After the first day they sent an email saying that too many kids were congregating outside of school and across the street and were hugging, etc. so they basically said to cut it out. Since then I haven't heard anything else about it so assuming they got it as under control as they possibly can considering these were outside of school issues. The only thing DD complains about and apparently multiple people have complained about is that the quality of food has declined since they no longer have the full buffet type of food, but instead have you order every week from a set menu of cold options that apparently are terrible (think lettuce with chickpeas on top for vegan meal and cheese sandwich for vegetarian).
1 middle schooler and 1 high schooler at Dwight NYC and going fantastic. middle school in person every day!
We are at a private SN and hybrid 2-days in school 3-days on zoom. The in-school days are amazing and the zoom days suck.
