Oh no! Our private upper school is just starting hybrid tomorrow. First day of in-person classes. It's good that your school started hybrid early so the students and teachers could bond. When they go remote in Nov., they will have already had a good foundation together. You are lucky to have that. If our school shuts down at Thanksgiving, the US students will barely have time together in school
I think a lot of schools in NYC are going to do this. Some have admitted it is because they know people will travel over the holidays and they want to give them time to quarantine, hence opening after MLK. I have stop predicting what is going to happen though because I have been wrong at every turn of the corner!
Wow. Won't this piss off a lot of people if public school kids are in school?

Yes please stop doom-and-gloom predictions esp if they are not correct! Not many schools are closing after Thanksgiving. One of our DCs' schools is allowing limited remote access for anotherwise fully in-person January to permit families who traveled to quarantine.
I haven't heard a thing about ECFS doing this but if they do, they will keep a lid on it until the last possible moment. They are still dealing with cutting the school day down by an hour. I think they will wait until November 1.
I think a lot of schools will do this too. It's tough to have school in peak cold/flu season when you are constantly monitoring and keeping people out for symptoms and then there is also the issue of people traveling over the holidays. It's not a HUGE loss because the kids would be out for two weeks in December anyway (assuming they do end up resuming after MLK). That being said, it's much more significant for kids who are only starting now and/or are hybrid versus for kids who have been in school regularly for 6-7 weeks already.
I agree. I think they will need the extra time to try to figure out how to stay open in the winter. Our school is working really hard but it seems like every day they are learning something new and adapting.
@Anonymous Every school has optional remote for kids who are in quarantine for one reason or another. But this is designed to give the teachers an opportunity to travel too.
i just don't get why in other countries schools are fully open and we're just totally not. are they crazy? or are we? has to kind of be one of the other cos infection rates are the same.
@anonymous Plus universal healthcare (not a factor for private school families here, maybe, but definitely for public), along with more reliable contact tracing. Ours is a mess compared to most of Europe. Many countries have also prioritized schools and been more willing to shut down other businesses, venues etc to bring down overall spread, so that schools can stay open.

Which school is this? I had heard HM and Gaynor were both doing this already.
Is there a rumor ECFS is going to do this? (Please please no!)

@Anon what hours did it used to be?
Upper School isn't even in yet at 50%. No way they can shut down for thanksgiving, unless there is a big outbreak
All schools will do this.

@Anon I really don’t see how we’ll go back to school before next September unfortunately
Dwight now remote from Jan 4 to Jan 19.
Dwight should be OPTIONAL remote for families that choose to travel.

Yup they said they are doing this so teachers can go home.
My kids are in public but this sounds awful.
My kids are in public and won’t be setting foot into school until 11/9. right before the holidays. how stupid.
NYC public? How does that work--was it one of the buildings that needed extra ventilation repairs?
Better than Dalton!
Dalton administrators should be fired.

I honestly think it's because we are a litigious society.
