We don't have our school assignments yet but we are most likely staying. I figure our oldest will have Brooklyn Tech as his safety and hopefully scored high enough for HSMSE or will get a lottery spot at one of our choices.
If we get nothing I don't know what we will do. Maybe scramble for private spot or take a year abroad and homeschool.
Definitely staying. Older DC is at Hunter. Younger DC is applying for public middle. We will try whatever we get in the lottery for a year. If it's not working, we'll try to make a change for 7th (ideally to HCHS, but if not, then another public school). May consider private for high school - will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Probably leaving. Looking at the burbs now. Our District 2 elem has done a really nice job and I've supplemented with tutors but dh has always wanted to move and while I was initially hesitant I feel like I'm ready now. Not much of a sense of community around here and I feel like it will be a while before things get better in nyc.
My kid is in the lower grades of a sought after elementary. I'm shocked that I'm writing this, but I'm seriously considering homeschooling for 2-3 years.
Thanks, not sure if they will be open to that, but maybe. I'm mostly disappointed by more structural issues though. That's partly overall DOE issues, like insane bureaucracy
and rigidity, which I think severely limits individual schools/ teachers. I feel we are dependent on having exceptional ones, but that's clearly a matter of luck.
@AnonymousQ Agree with this. We're at a D2 elementary public school now but got into a private school that's not close to where we live. We're on the fence for what to do, but have a growing fear that public schools won't be back to normal in September thanks to the dysfunctional DOE.

doesn't hunter have good college placements? why would you leave for private high school?
@Anonymous My kid at Hunter is staying there. We may send the younger one to private HS, assuming she doesn't get into Hunter.

We are leaving ! Westchester
Moving South.
Stuck - 2 kids in specialized high schools. If they were younger - we would be in private/parochial our move elsewhere in a heart beat.

Would the school hold spot in such a case at least for a year? I am thinking things might get back to normal in a year if that's your concern.
