or even the year after do we think? if they aren't even trialling the vaccine on kids and the UFT is how it is...

Is there any chance public schools will open 5 days per week in 2020-2021?

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I actually, literally, laughed out loud :)
let's hope! if not...they better come up with a comprehensive child care plan so 1.1 million parents can work!!
I was talking to our parent co ordinator and she said she thinks it will be all of 2020-2021 .
Yeah, no way they are opening 5 days in 20-21. I'll be thrilled if we can keep up 2 days a week, and I'm not optimistic for that.
Tell your parent co-ordinator how upset you are.
0% chance for 20-21. I think for 21-22, they'll be somewhat more open but not back to full 5 days. And parents and teachers will still be allowed to opt for full remote.
@anonymous what makes you think so?
They spent months hammering out this agreement with the union. They won't change it for this year. Not happening.
And there's no way they'll just go back to normal next school year, vaccine or none. They'll make a new agreement to come back halfway.
@anonymous why would they not come back if the re is a vaccine? what possibly could be the justification for that?
We moved into another district and it’s being set up so if/when we go back the kids will be home every Wed for “cleaning”. I do believe this virtual part of the week will become permanent. kids are being left home alone as young as 9/10 bc parents have to work. It’s horrible.
and cleaning is stupid. it's transmitted through breathing not surfaces they are increasingly finding.
@Anonymous it’s bs. The schools invested too much money in chrome books and now this will become perm.
I don't love your answer but I think this is part of the Facebook/Google/Apple big tech initiative to have our children online even more. Look at how the various systems ALEKS (sp?), Google Classroom, Schoology (sp?), Zoom are tracking what our whole families do everyday through our children. My DC compare it to Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
Not in NYC. Florida, Texas, ec. Yes.
No but fwiw we bit the bullet and bought a second home to have somewhere else to go.
I think if everyone does their due diligence and covid rates drop to 0, yes it will open after Spring break.
I don't think the COVID rates have to drop to zero but maybe less than 1% for several months?
Yes in Florida
