Can someone tell me more abt this school?
More context is needed. It's an arts high school. Is your kid in the arts?
If they're applying for next year, they need to have a portfolio completed asap. No application due dates have been given yet, but historically, it's been extremely hard to get into. Maybe current and past LaG parents can weigh in.
and has info/reviews
It's considered the best academically of the performing arts schools in the city. But what is your criteria of a good HS.
I have a sophomore at Laguardia and have been very happy with his experience. It is a big school but very organized. The emphasis is on the arts but academics are very strong. 5 languages to choose from all the way through AP level and many more AP classes available as well as excellent electives, arts and otherwise. The Art studio is quite large but the others - theater tech, drama, vocal, and music are smaller and dance is less than 60 students per grade. Kids do not seem to get lost, teachers and guidance and especially studio departments are devoted. There is a really great comaraderie - admin, teachers, kids, and parents seemed very happy and proud to be part of the community. We certainly feel that way. You only need a portfolio prepared to auction for the art studio. Info for auditions for all studios will be posted soon, everything will be virtual and/or online this year so it will be different. I strongly encourage you to have your child apply! Good luck
Do they offer AP Calculus and Physics?
When your sophomore applied to high schools. Did he or she apply to any of the other performing arts schools? I'm interested in your thoughts of other schools you may have toured (e.g., Frank Sinatra, PPAS, etc...) . Thanks!
Not IMO, no. Drive by and see the student body
NP: The student body is very talented. It's very competitive
Yes, please drive by and make sweeping generalizations about a student body based on their looks (eye roll). That's the way to pick a school.
