The NYT article discusses UV lights and air filters to reduce risk of indoor Covid transmission in closed poorly ventilated environments like schools, offices and nursing homes. Shouldn't public health/school administration officials discuss and make these preparations before announcing re-opening? Should parents collect funding to have these installed in classrooms to proactively reduce the spread? Sadly enough, Sunday morning thoughts after reading news.
Where do you think NYC public schools are going to get the funding to install UV lights and air filters? They can't even pay for tissues and soap.
Maybe go back to bed and re-post when you've woken up from your dream.
I understand what you are saying. But why should schools be expected to resume as normal when nothing is really normal? Why should kids, teachers and school staff be expected to brave the virus with no PPE, no environmental risk reduction? It will only increase infection rates and make the economic recovery harder. The more I think, the more helpless I feel. Its good advice to sleep it away, but sadly have trouble sleeping since the pandemic, hence was up early. Sigh.
this.
Who besides Trump thinks schools are going to re-open as normal? In NYC my kid will be going AT MOST once a week in the fall.
Schools in Connecticut will open with full-time live in-person instruction in the fall. And CT’s experience with Covid was almost as severe as NY’s.
I have made this same point before. We know how the virus is transmitted and how to reduce infections, but it takes resources (more space, PPE, thorough cleaning, testing and tracing), not to mention safe transportation. As a society, we are just not willing to devote funding to these things, and therefore we will suffer even more.
Lower case brooklynmom agrees with you, initial caps.
Haha. We probably live on the same block.
Lol
Other countries have figured out how to bring children back to school successfully. From an NYT article, "So far, countries that reopened schools after reducing infection levels — and imposed requirements like physical distancing and limits on class sizes —have not seen a surge in coronavirus cases." Of course, this requires having the virus under control and having a competent federal government that is willing to invest time and resources.
These countries had the virus under control before they opened schools. Also, schools were only open for a few weeks before the summer break and they relied heavily on staggered cohorts. Not at all what the federal government wants in the US.
We don’t need any of this, kids should go back full time, end of.
SMH
Why should parents collect funding to have this installed? This should be provided by the DOE instead of paying for 6 figure salaries for directors of mindfulness/yoga. In all seriousness, its ridiculous that pre-covid
Los Angeles and San Diego will be starting the school year fully remotely.
