I opted for remote learning months ago. I saw the handwriting on the wall that it was going to be a shit-show and have a learner who probably does better online. It is what it is. What is not cool is how the city handled the reopening. It's like these idiots (DeBlasio/Caranza) knew from the beginning that opening schools without testing was not a sustainable option. But they went ahead and Cuomo gave his endorsement and then waited for the teachers to come in and stop it all as they knew they would. Now it's the teachers fault. I hope you can all see this as I do.

agreed. bdb and carranza and cuomo are all happy to let the teachers take the blame even though a no reopening/unsafe reopening choice is the worst outcome for families.
Agree. I also think the UFT's media/PR team failed their members by allowing the narrative to become "teachers don't want to go back to school", rather than "teachers are having to be the adults in the room and point out that DOE hasn't done what it promised." My sisters are teachers so I've been hearing this for months, but it feels like it's only been said publicly very recently, and probably too late after the other story has taken hold.
^^
And can we talk about the insane rule that in remote classes they can now have 2x the number of students!!! 60 kids in an online class? No learning will be happening for sure now.
I tend to agree with you. I know the teachers and principals have been working hard to plan for reopening, but without the city and DOE's help, there is not much that can happen. But I feel like the teachers and the Union should have known in May/June it will be hard to plan for the fall in such a short time, and they should have agreed to end the year early and start planning early. I am sure some teachers really don't want to go back, but most do. DOE and BDB botched this.
