It is going so great, I really hope that they can stay open until at least Thanksgiving break. Sure certain classes will have to go remote for a few weeks here and there because of exposure, but if they could stay open until Thanksgiving and then come back by the end of spring break, I would be happy.
I think our school has the philosophy of open at all costs but not sure it is sustainable. Doing a slow phase in now with not a lot of kids in the building at one time and they keep sending emails about social distancing and filling out the daily health forms because parents aren't doing it. I don't know how they open fully with all of the kids in the school.
Now that public schools won't be open for a few weeks, I think privates will benefit from the delay b/c overall cases won't rise much if at all. Once 500K kids are back in school along with all the staff, it will inevitably rise. But privates may be able to stay open longer than publics. I know that 3% is for closing publics, but I don't know if that's privates too.
I think this as well. If schools only open up fully two weeks from now, and we have low community prevalence, it would take at least four weeks after that for a rise in cases attributable to schools. That being said, from what I'm seeing the rise is not going to come from schools--it's going to come from what is happening outside of schools. But as schools reopen it's going to be hard for people to keep staying distant in other areas.
This isn't fear mongering. I'm at a private school that places extremely high value on being in-person and we are shifting into prep mode for potentially going back into distance learning in the nearer term. I'm a little more optimistic, though- I think we might make it to the end of October..

This is based on what? The trat tests was .08 percent today, for crying out loud. Pure fear mongering.
I don't think DeBlasio has any authority over privates. That would be Cuomo's call. But many private schools will probably follow the threshold DB has set, for fear of liability if they stay open longer and someone gets really sick as a result.
yes cuomo's call. So - piggybacking on that question, anyone know If cuomo would mandate shutting down privates If public had to close because of a 3 percent positivity rate -- even if hospitals were not overrun???
A few more weeks

@Anonymous you mean stay open til thanksgiving and then home though March? That wouldn't be good at all!!
no one answer. depends on how the specific private is handling it.

Which school?

The second wave has hit Europe and we’re next. I’d be surprised if schools are open a month from now
Nice fear mongering. You must work for CNN.

test results.,. Not test tests.
Does ANYONE know if the 3% citywide positive rate DeBlasio says is the trigger for him to close schools included PRIVATES, too?

The threshold Cuomo has set for shutting down a region is 5%. Are you asking if he could change that to 3%? Of course he can.
Will he? I don't think anyone can give you the answer.
