I went there and I don't get it. I know the building is old. But...They are the last people to fold their cards. Didn't they try tents on Randall's Island, buying land in Yonkers, anything and everything? I wonder if they had some scientific insight that schooling is simply not going to work in NYC and threw in the towel.

Since when is Dalton not a great school?
Whenever it happened the nail in the coffin was COVID-ember 2020
Because they suck. They have been drinking their own Kool aid for years and are no longer the scrappy school trying to prove themselves among TTs. They know they have an enviable spot as the only co-ed Manhattan TT that's not Trinity, and that there are plenty of hedge fund billionaires lining up for spots.
I think this responder has it exactly.
I respect that they’re prioritizing teachers’ health, but I wish they had at least tried to have come up with creative solutions (tents,etc) so students aren’t shortchanged.
I honestly think this will hurt Dalton's reputation for a long time. When families really needed them, Dalton said "tough shit," essentially.
I think people will forget. And I think Dalton has operated like this for a long time. I've heard complaints. Basically that they make sure that they get their spots at Harvard and the top schools year after year and they make sure they have Instagram worthy talking points on race, progressive education, etc. but it's not really about making the effort to support each student and family.
@anonymous well the black@dalton instagram paints a very different picture
@Anonymous In what way?
People will always line up for places like Dalton and Harvard. That's just how the world works.
