Anyone figure out the way to get DC to do HW without crying every night?
A lot of good suggestions above. I would like to add that with my kids I would break into chunks and give breaks in between letting them do an activity of choice. For example, your son can do math and science then take a 20-30 break for videogames or something. Then go back to ELA, etc. Its really trying different strategies to see what works. GL!
How old? I think the best trick is to start early and get it out of the way before dinner.
@Anonymous That seems like a lot of homework for that age. How much of it is reading? And why are they getting home so late? There are too many unknowns to offer really solid advice but I would start with improving the schedule. If there are doing afterschool then they need a homework club and if it is a sport you might need to dial it back. You could absolutely use the reading as the downtime or cut the time between getting home and starting homework to 30 minutes.
@Anonymous They have a long school day which ends at 4, so 4:30 is the earliest they could get home. None of it is reading (in English, they do have to read in a foreign language, but that's not really down time). DC literally gets home and has no other activities, etc.
@Anonymous one and a half hours a night for a 9 year old seems excessive!
