I'm not sure how many other UWS moms are on this forum, but might as well try. Have a 5th grader at a lower D3 elementary school. Assuming the MS process will be lottery next year. Older child went to booker T which we liked a lot and will be our first choice for kid #2. We also toured computer, wess and mott hall at the time and I'd be happy to send my younger DC to any of those.
The question is, are there any other reasonable choices?? Hidden gems? I'm worried if we only list those 4 we'll get none of them.
My DC is a 6th grader at Lafayette Academy. I see it as a real up-and-coming school. Dual language program for French. Terrific principal, engaged parent body, very small school so kids don't get overlooked. Will be interesting to see what it's like when "normal" school resumes, but so far I'm impressed.
Tell me more! Is your DC in the dual language? Was s/he in the French DL program for ES? We don't speak a word of French...how is the non-French program?
I heard that program has become excellent but that you must speak French to attend Lafayette. In the same building on W93rd is Manhattan School for Children (MSC) that is K-8 and they take new some middle school students. I have two friends who are thrilled with the MS and many kids go on to Beacon, Laguradia, and other good schools from there. My two DCs went to Booker T and we loved it. Good luck!
Thanks. My older child went to Booker and we loved it too. Thought my younger one would go as well, but with a lottery, there are no guarantees.
