A bunch of privates have already decided there will be in person school in some form this fall. Has your school told you abou the logistics of drop-off and pickup? One of the biggest concerns is the start and end of the day when kids and parents are crowding in trying to get their kids to class on time. How is that going to work now? My private has not decided on its plan yet, but it has mentioned that if it goes hybrid (which is the likely plan), there will be some attempt to stagger start times and that no parents may enter the building. I'm trying to envision how this is going to work without everyone just being crowded on the sidewalk outside, especially if parents are dropping off multiple children in different grades.

It’s all a fiction. They will all go remote.
I disagree. Some privates might just pull it off. They have the resources, and the community is invested in making it work.
@Anonymous I agree. Especially very small privates. My DF's sends her kid to a school with about 15 - 20 kids per grade - they should have no problem.
Brearley has staggered arrival and departure times this year: 10 minute intervals for each grade. For instance for the lower school, arrivals start with 8-8:10am for 4th grade and go until 8:50am for K. Same idea with dismissal.
Publics say the same, staggered start times and no visitors in the building, but we don’t have any real details yet. I think the city has to approve each school’s plan, so maybe they can’t say until it’s rubber stamped, or maybe they just don’t want to say and then have it change. I also agree with the OR upthread that it may all turn out to be impossible.
Maybe they’ll use the courtyard entrance and the main entrance? But I agree - allowing only 10 minutes or so for 50 kids to enter the building is going to be a stretch. Fifty markings, 6’ apart, will wrap around the building. Add in clueless parents who don’t think social distancing applies to them - yikes.
My thinking is that people aren't going to show up promptly at 8:20 for an 820-830 dropoff time -- they have to take into account some variability in commute time right? So they'll show up at 810 and mill around the entrance along with parents who have an 810 start time, and with parents who dropped off one kid at 8 but still need to drop off another kid at 820. That's a big crowd forming right there!
Has your school not given parents it’s rules yet? My kids are in multiple schools and each has very clear plans for drop off and strict rules against milling around and has made it clear they wont tolerate violations. The schools have worked so hard over the summer to make it possible for our kids to return in person and every parent I know is incredibly grateful. They aren’t going to ruin their child’s chance at in person school to stand in groups at the school entrance.
HCHS is saying staggered start times plus a social distance markers for anyone waiting to enter -- so if you arrive early you wait in line, outside, 6 feet away from others. they have to ID each student entering to confirm they did a symptom and temperature check.
@Anon We don't even know what building HCHS is using for the ES and MS. Also, the PTA meeting on Monday was a mess. I doubt the school is opening.
to me it was a mess on the faculty side, not the admin. The issue is whether they will really stay home no matter what.
@Anon I don't know. If the faculty is really as miserable as they sounded, especially in the letters, it seems worrisome to me. Will they resent my kid for showing up? Also, when will we know whether they're going to be at 94th or Hunter college?
Ha - we don’t even know what the plan is yet!
Our private has each grade entering and exiting through their own door. Teachers will have walkie talkies and send kids down one at a time. Parents and caregivers will line up on the street 6ft apart.
