We are in a sought-after PS. I think the remote/hybrid experience gave me a deeper-than-usual insight into the US educational experience (I grew up abroad myself) and I want to re-evaluate. Ideally, I would like my kid to be in an environment that combines a. Academic rigor/high expectations, a place where scholarship is celebrated, b. True flexibility and open-mindedness in curriculum/instruction (e.g. DOB cannot be the major criterion in what a kid is learning), c. Encourages critical thinking, PBL, etc, in a way that doesn't contradict (a). I do not care about facilities, sports. I'm not sure if this exists or where to look for it.
This sounds like Speyer to me.
Yes! Speyer is what you are looking for!
Thanks, I did visit Speyer once and had good feelings about it. Do they move kids between grades?
They let students take more advanced classes if they believe they're up to the task. I don't know about officially moving grades, but I do know they allow some flexibility in terms of accommodating specific interests and abilities.
I was going to say the same, sounds like Speyer to me as well. What do you mean by move the kids between the grades? You mean are there other entry points? The answer is yes. They are in a rolling admission schedule. You don't even have to wait until September to apply.Families move, people drop out of waitlist. If you are interested you should apply.
Oh! I thought OP meant let kids take more advanced classes. ITA with what you're saying on other entry points and would think there is availability even this year if OP calls to express strong interest.
You are right, I meant allowing e.g. a first grader to attend higher grades for one or more subjects. If it's a good fit.
@AnonymousQ Got it -- yes, they do allow this. And their WL moves a ton because they purport to seek out gifted kids, many of whom make it into TT schools. Because it's highly selective, a lot of people end up having TT K-12 options, so there should be opportunity to get in there if you have an advanced dc.
