I hadn’t appreciated that NY is the only major school system in the US that is seeking to open in some capacity.
NYC has better numbers at least right now than the other big school districts, which are mostly in California, Texas and Florida. Chicago's numbers are getting worse now too.
What about Boston or other NE school districts? Schools in areas where infection rates are low. I hope NYC doesn't cave just because other districts are remote. We are in a better situation.
Boston area schools are still deciding. Some have announced hybrid schools and some are sending K-2 back full time. But the unions are threatening to strike and a few towns have announced full remote. As for Boston proper, not sure.
New York will go 100 percent remote. Cuomo will make sure of that.
why do you say that? Do you mean he is right and will make sure of that? Because if you think NYC is the pits now it will be far worse if people who are away don't come back for school. And the most disadvantaged children will surely suffer most. For no good reason. Our infection rates are low, and safety protocols are in place.
So if we can't open schools with an infection rate below 1% (which is where we're at now), um, when CAN we open them? Never, maybe?
Let’s see how long the infection rate stays this low when schools open
agree. If their position is "no opening until vaccine" just say it and own it. Otherwise stop dangling this carrot of possibly opening in front of us with moving goalposts. And while bars and sports and everything else open, of course.
@AnonymousNYmom In that case, we have to wait for a vaccine. Welcome to 2+ years of homeschooling.
