long story short - we need to get 7 yo adhd into full time school and have found a catholic private we can afford that is open full time. They haven't broached our religion but we are not catholic (though fine with him learning catholicism). Does anyone know if it's an issue that we are not catholic? Should we not raise it?
I’m Catholic and it’s my understanding that it’s generally not an issue. But non-parishioners may pay more. For this reason alone, they will ask.
and for that reason alone, they like non-Catholics!
At the private Catholics (St D's, CSH, MM) it's actually a benefit. Parochial lower schools don't really care. the only school that requires you to be baptized is Regis but that's high school
Just want to say that traditional catholic school with lots of structure and high expectations for academics and behavior has been so wonderful for my adhd dc. Seems like it may be counter intuitive but dc has really thrived as compared to the more "progressive" school we were at previously. I think kids who struggle sometimes need more rigidity to help them focus and learn. They still have time and space to be creative outside of core subject classes. GL!
i chose progressive and my ADHD really struggles. Wish I had realized this earlier but I agree with you, strucutre is much better for kids with learning differences. People assume progressives are soft and forgiving but they are only great for self-directed learners.
We love our catholic grammar school. Be prepared for daily religion class.
We sent our kids to Catholic this year for the 5 days. They have religion once a week. They are very used to having non Catholics there.
Shouldn't be an issue - Regis HS is only one I know that requires baptism. Our local Catholic - from ES/MS to HS - have many students who are not Catholic. Both my kids who are not Catholic yet were accepted and received scholarships to Catholic school.
