I always felt like staying in NYC despite the rising costs and school issues was a matter of principle, like we don't quit. Now we feel justified to ourselves to flee NYC. DH and I work remotely (and always have) and have enough money to buy a new place or rent somewhere nice and keep up the maintenance on our paid-off modest apartment. But I feel like I still want to stay. DCs are rising 8th graders and we all have EU passports. We could just pick up tomorrow and move to Vienna or Paris. Most of our friends have fled. We have no family. I'm not sure why we don't just leave. DCs are up for anything. What would you do? Especially knowing we could come back easily?

I think there's a lot to be said for staying home. We had family urging us to leave early on and we thought about it and realized that there is comfort in the familiar. This is our home for better or worse and it is comfortable with all our objects around us and familiar restaurants (our regular Friday night out dinner is now our regular order in on Fridays) and parks nearby. Just because you can, doesn't mean it's the right decision for you.
Wow, this all sounds fabulous.
Um, if you want to stay, stay. WTH?
Go. It doesn’t need to be permanent. No one’s giving you a medal for “touching it out” in NYC. Think of it as a rare opportunity to pick up and carry on wherever you want.
