FYI, even if you've changed your username to something anonymous, the URL of your user profile reflects your original email address you signed up with, unless you change that too.
Which is handy for identifying trolls replying to themselves, but if you would prefer not to associate your IRL name with your profile, go fix it!
How do you do that?
Go to the "My Account" page up the top and change the "Community Profile URL" section. Yours looks fine--you must have changed it when you signed up.
I wish this forum was truly anonymous. I know I'd post more if it were. And I don't think people realize how much they actually reveal about themselves.
Is any forum truly anonymous?
@MidtownMom You know what I mean. User profiles are an identifier.
Thanks for the tip.
maybe the moderator can turn off that setting -- I believe it's possible so that number of replies, etc., doesn't show up.
I don't know, I kind of like how people can't just endlessly reply to themselves without being obvious. If you change the user profile so that it doesn't have any identifying info, I don't see the harm the number of likes and replies being visible so loony tunes posters are identifiable.
@a nonymous What people wanted from UB was true anonymity. It will never have the intimacy here that it did there with the perceived ability to trace answers.
Hardly "tracing answers", it's not like you can search for all a user's posts like on most boards. It just makes it possible to see if replies on a single thread are actually multiple people or one nut replying to herself. Personally I'm happy with slightly less intimacy if it also comes without the rampant troll problems UB had, but ultimately it is Queen Mod's choice.
FWIW, wishing for more anonymity doesn't automatically make you a troll.
Case in point: me. I'm the one who called out that poster/troll on the "terrified" thread for talking to herself. She since seems to have deleted her account. Clearly, having unique profiles has its advantages. I still wish for more anonymity for various reasons, one that I've touched on upthread. But as 'a nonymous' has mentioned above "...neither of our opinions matter..." so I'm saving my breath ;-).
I'm just grateful for someone to talk to now that I don't go to the office every day. I don't care who you are or what you post! Lol
can someone please explain step by step how you can see someone's url in their profile? whenever i click on someone profile I can only see their user name- which on this site is almost all names anonymous.
You click on someone's profile, go to the address bar, click on there and the url changes from nycitymoms.com to the user's nycmoms community url. Unless you've changed it, part of that url will be comprised with the local part of the email you've signed up with. No worries if you used a burner email which doesn't contain your real name but there seem to be people on here who signed up with their regular email containing, I assume, their real names. I highly, highly doubt most are realizing this. Case in point, the person who was trolling from yesterday.
But how do you change that? I only see a way to edit user name?
That's very nice of you to let people know, OP.
I'm just bumping this topic up, since some users need to read this message.
To OP its nice of you to let people know. But I have to ask - who is going around checking people's profiles?? That is just creepy.
