Trivial, I know. Picked up dinner at a pizza joint; due $14 change, but was only given back $4. (I even left a dollar in the top jar so should’ve realized then, but was in a rush). Once I got back home, checked my bag to put the bills back in wallet and see that they didn’t give me the $10. Do I call and mention it or just chalk it off to a big New Years tip. I’ll likely do the latter, but the cyclical side of me wonders if it was purposeful. Way too much thought on this, thanks for indulging me.
Are you SURE you didn't drop a bill if you were rushing? If you were given 4 singles and you put one in the tip jar leaving you with 3 singles, you likely would have noticed it. Are you sure you didn't drop more money in the tip jar by mistake? Or drop a bill on the floor or outside as you were dropping money into your bag, which you were balancing with a pizza box? Truly anything is possible. Would just chalk it up to Karma / the universe needing you to lose that $10 so that someone more needy would find it. I would not call the pizza joint given the circumstances of all that you were managing and the strong possibility that it was lost elsewhere.
I’m sure it wasn’t dropped. After he handed me the change with a receipt — I put a dollar in the jar and rolled the rest up with the receipt. The folded amt was in my crossbody bag when I got home. I know this is so trivial, but it’s the third time it’s happened that I can remember in recent memory (given back incorrect change) and it’s making me think how much money I’ve lost not checking over the years. 🤷🏻♀️
So maybe you needed this to happen to get the message that you need to start checking. Why you let it happen two more times is hard to understand -- if it happens once, ok, but wouldn't you start checking after that? Third time is the charm, hopefully.
