I have been double-masking for a while. Only in stores or other indoor spaces (though I literally can't think of any other indoor spaces I've been to the past year).
I only go indoors when I need a doctor’s appointment, and yes, for my last one I double masked (one FFP2 and one fabric on top). I have had my first vaccine dose a few days ago and intend to only use one FFP2 for future visits.
If I have to go indoors but I'm trying to cut down on that. I'm also going to switch to a thicker, multi-layer with filter inserts. I've just been using shaped masks from Target.
No. I’m getting bitter over the stupidity of this. For months we were told no masks. Then cloth masks were good. Now they are not good. Surgical masks are good. Now they are not enough. GTfOH with this nonsense bc it proves no one knows what the hell they are talking about. Sorry I’m very grouchy today. I had a meeting with a colleague, both surgically masked and now I have Covid. All of these rules are Bullshit.
Oh wow, I am sorry to hear you have Covid! I hope you feel better soon! I agree that this constant back and forth is demoralizing and shows no one knows anything Or if they know, they deliberately lie.
@ Anonymous thank you and you are right. I feel like we are being lied to. Wuhan had a higher party on NYE meanwhile our schools are just opening this week. I don‘t get it
I have been fully vaccinated since January 7. Public health measures are starting to change to reflect the increasing evidence that those who are vaccinated are not spreading the virus. I am happy to go through the theater of wearing a mask when I am out and about, but no, I don't plan to double up.
Double mask or K94. Frankly the “masks don’t work” message that we all got while ALL OF Asia has been wearing masks for decades was part of the reason why we are still dealing with this. It would have been much MUCH easier to say everybody must wear masks then relax the guidelines than the other way around. But let’s not forget that our old administration didn’t ensure we had a strategic supply of masks so yeah...the message wasn’t about what’s right, it was about what’s feasible
They lost all credibility when they told people not to wear masks in the beginning of the pandemic. You can’t lie so obviously to manipulate millions of people and think it won’t come back to haunt you.
I started going to the gym, because I need exercise for my health, and the risk (to me) of having a heart attack or stroke is much higher than my risk of contracting COVID. I do double-mask, and stay more than 6 feet from others. Getting the vaccine soon, so it won't be an issue in about a month.
Pls be careful in the gym as the variants come around. The vaccine may be less effective against the Brazil and S African variants. I got a treadmill at home last month. It folds away and is really convenient to have at home. I have not missed a single day's workout as its right there.
@ Anonymous Thank you, I am being super-careful. The gym I go to is very empty (for now). My favorite exercise is swimming laps, and I'm able to get my own lane. Usually there are maximum 4 people in the pool, and the place seems very well ventilated. If I run on the treadmill or use the elliptical, I'm at least 10 feet away from the closest (masked) person. It's not 100 percent risk-free, but getting in a car is probably more dangerous.
Yes, started a couple of weeks ago. I live in a rural area and we're not getting a lot of vaccine here. Went to a funeral over the weekend and while the attendees all masked, the funeral home staff were pretty casual about it. So, glad I did. But other than groceries, pharmacy, and necessary medical appointments, I'm not going anywhere.
My two cents as a healthcare professional: We always double masked at work around infectious cases, so this is not new. I have been double masking since February last year before this pandemic started, reading about Covid in China. I was asked at work to stop wearing masks as it was not indicated per hospital policy. I had to fight against this and get my own masks too for safety. I think it was criminal negligence to not have an effective public health message emphasizing masking to curb the initial spread of covid.
I commented on page 1. I am an ER doctor who was asked not to mask when I left the ER (like to get food in the cafeteria). We were told it would scare patients. This came from my department head who I know well and respect. I’m in New England.
Sure, I've been going inside stores since the summer and feel like this is a small ask to keep everyone safer. It really doesn't make much difference for me if I am wearing 1 or 2 masks.
No but I stay away from other people pretty easily. I have upgraded to using a KN95 though.
Me too. If you are wearing a KN95 you don't need to double mask. The point of double-masking is to create a better seal.

IMO there is no need to double mask outside unless you are REALLY close to others.

Yikes. How are you feeling?? That's so scary!

@ Anonymous I am ok, just very tired, no taste, and clearly very grouchy ;)
The good news is that you'll be immune soon!!

@Anonymous exactly, exactly, exactly to you and PP.

Good for you, and hear hear!!!
Where are you that you were asked not to wear a mask as healthcare professional? I find this hard to believe.

I am just using the professional respirator
