I know this board claims to be all goody two shoes types, but EVERYONE I know in real life is currently traveling as if not a care in the world. Most are in Florida, others skiing either out west or in VT. A couple international. Don't even bother mentioning quarantining to them as it's clear they will do as they please and come back to NY on Sunday and go back to work/school. I just don't get it.

Yeah, only the people posting on this board it seems. Guess it makes sense, everyone else is out enjoying their life!
Not everyone is traveling, and not everyone is seeing family for the holidays, we haven't done either of those things.
Hopefully schools are requiring a clear test before coming back. Glad ours is!
You are right. The numbers are so high in certain tourist areas in the South because people have traveled in. The amount of ski pics is unbelievable to me
I just saw photos from someone traveling in New Zealand. Does that even make sense? I thought you can't go there?
Agree. I'm shocked at what I see posted online. Mexico, FL, VT...ridiculous.
I've been shocked at how everyone, literally everyone, is seeing family for the holidays. You would have no idea we are in a pandemic if you saw my social media feed. It seems only people who post on this board are actually following the guidance?
So you're saying those people up here in Vermont aren't quarantining for 14 days beforehand like the resorts are asking them to attest to, for threat of being shut down by the governor? ;)
I do have to say it's ... not sure ironic is the right word, but I'll use it here ... that Vermonters have been asked/required to not affiliate with any other household either inside the home or outside the home for informal gatherings since mid-November, but visitors are coming and staying in multi family ski homes and doing their own thing.
We are trying so hard to keep the numbers down so that kids can stay in school. I'm grateful the governor has made in-person schooling a priority, but disheartened at what I have seen this week.
I've made this analogy before, but it's similar to the arguments regarding abstinence vs safe sex. Only the former 100% prevent pregnancy, but the latter is important to teach because, in practice, people aren't going to be abstinent and you need to teach preventative measures. Yes, staying home saves lives, but there is also a way to minimize risk depending on the safety measures taken when people go out. When there was low community spread, we went on a socially distant vacation and it was really no different than me staying at my home, in terms of risk, etc. If the only message we have is "stay home" we are missing the opportunity to promote safe measures for those who do choose to travel.
Yet more reasons why I deactivated my Facebook account
well what about the people who are posting it on social media? do they not realize they are subjecting themselves to judgement once they return? if their childs school has to close for a period of time because of people traveling why would they want to advertise they are part of this problem? cant people keep anything private- must they put everything they do out there for all to see?
I traveled, but I was as careful as possible. Test before flight, booked on a day wiht less than 30% capacity (early dec), wore N95s on flight, quarantined upon arrival, then got another test after 5 day period. Only seeing in laws who also quarantine. I don't go places with crowds, if I go anywhere at all. I am trying to move here and have been for months, so really needed to get out here to look at the houses (we don't have to really interact with anyone during this process so it is safe). I felt kind of bad doing this but at the same time, we really need to move so it had to be done.
I don't understand it either. So many people we know are traveling, and I keep finding more people I know where whole family got covid.
I agree I can’t get over it. Can’t everyone just sit tight for a year? Is that too much to ask?
