I don’t get it... we all want testing except DB. The teachers are asking for it. Our public elementary parents are asking for it. Help me understand wtf the mayor says no. Why does our amazing principal have her hands tied on this. Wtffff
Can you explain what is stopping everyone from voluntarily getting tested? (Genuine question). Is the issue that you want to force everyone to get tested? FWIW, I work for the City and they've been recruiting people to help get teachers tested via expedited lines. So the City is trying to implement teacher testing, they are just not requiring it.
I think the capacity isn't there. If the DoE mandated that all schoolchildren get tested in a one-week period, it would completely overwhelm the testing centers.
testing doesn't tell you much. If everyone tested negative three days before going back to school, some people could still become infected and contagious in those three days (or while waiting for test results to come back). For it to be meaningful you'd have to do it frequently and get the results back quickly, neither of which seem possible now.
