OP: Currently live in a small but pricey home in Los Angeles and thinking of relocating once kids are grown. Looking for low real estate prices (compared to LA, NY, etc), with kind of a vegan/progressive vibe, and a reasonable number of transplants from coastal cities.
Me too! NY counterpart - was thinking somewhere in Oregon ? I’m Jewish though so need some of my tribe nearby...
Burlington VT or Hanover NH. Oregon is going sideways right now I wouldn’t move there.
Was about to say same.
and Oregon is FINE. Part of one block of PDX is being used for peaceful protest usurped by far side groups.
Honestly, I live in Burlington. the best man of our wedding lives in Portland. More of Burlington is being used for protest than Portland.
NP. Any recommendations in a more forgiving climate? I don’t think I could withstand the winters in VT or NH, especially when I am older. I say this coming from the North and knowing how many of my older relatives feel in the long, dark, cold winter months.
My concern with the forgiving climates is that they will be decimated with climate change. CA fires. South East hurricanes and west just unlivable heat.
Portland ME, Asheville NC, Northampton MA
Madison and Ann Arbor
OP: Looking at these responses, I like a lot of them but thinking since I have gotten used to warmer weather, maybe focusing in the south more?
I could never.
Hilton Head Charleston or Savanah
Do Charleston and Savannah have progressive vibe?
I live in New Orleans. You should look into the bywater/marigny neighborhoods.
basically your only option is Austin
