My kid has a huge wart on his knee. He's had it for more than a year. I took him to the dermatologist a few times, and nothing he did worked. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere -- in fact, it seems to be getting bigger. Considering getting it surgically removed. Anyone done this before? Is it painful?

The only thing that has worked for me is salicylic acid and duct tape. For months at a time.
Can you explain this more please? I've seen references online but a bit hesitant to try.
I apply the liquid wart remover (the acid) and cover with duct tape. When the tape falls off, the underlying skin is moist and macerated. I cut away at the wart as much as I can until I get to viable tissue. Then reapply acid and tape and repeat. You know there’s still warty tissue if there are black flecks in it. gross, yes.
@Anonymous And you had to do this for months?!? Oh man, I don't know if I'm that committed but I'm getting there.

Tried these and they didn't work.
Yes, DC has one on the hand removed 5 years ago and it hasn’t come back. The painful part is the local anesthesia shot they have to give.
Thanks. Yes, I'm worried about the anesthesia shot but happy to hear it didn't come back.
By surgery, do you mean getting it frozen off? I had a wart frozen off as a teen. I barely remember it, so it couldn't have been too bad. I agree that the most painful part was probably the anesthesia shot. I think the spot was tender for a few days after, but it was on the bottom of my big toe, so it didn't help that I was walking on it either. It never came back. I don't think my doctor tried anything else. Just went straight to freezing.
