I love the man but I am so bothered about the fact he voted for Trump
Why did he?
Have your DH send him this unless he too is part of the problem. https://thetriad.thebulwark.com/p/a-message-for-reluctant-trumpers
'Biden supporter DIL'
I love the woman but I am so bothered about the fact she'll vote for Biden
My own father voted for Nixon. Twice. If that's the only thing you don't like, then you're doing pretty well.
My parents were life long Republicans and even they are disgusted by Trump. It takes a certain kind of crazy( to be kind) to keep supporting him after these 4 years.
op - that is my thinking. Frankly I’m a centrist so I’m not a “woke liberal” but Trump is too much. He is destroying our country.
I'm right there with you. My mom sent me a video earlier this week which had some guy explaining why people should support Trump. Her goal in sending it was not to convince me, but to help me understand why people--including people I love--can support a man I find absolutely horrible. Honestly, the video just made me feel worse. It was calmly presented, but it was fear mongering, racially tone-deaf, and shows a total misunderstanding of the democrats. I've been an independent all my life and I have voted for both parties at different times in the past. I used to think that both parties basically want the same thing, we just disagree about the best way to get there. The Trump administration was my first clue that this was not the case, and that D's and R's actually want very different futures for the country and the next generation. The video my mom sent only confirmed that we are very, very far apart in terms of our vision for the future, nevermind how to get there. It has really created a wedge in our family because there are so many topics that we can't discuss.
Usually, we vote based on issues such as abortion, the economy, socio-economic equality, etc, and it makes sense that we have different viewpoints. But this time, I think we should ALL be voting on preserving our democracy. From the beginning of his term, Trump has used language and policy to dismantle and attack nonpartisan institutions that are here to protect us, like the free press, the CDC, the NIH, the electoral process... the list goes on.
This is so well said! Couldn't agree more.
Totally agree. I'm the poster above whose mom sent a link to a pro-Trump video and this is exactly what I was thinking. If nothing else, I'm casting a vote for democracy and for family peace. The divisive and angry rhetoric that permeates our national discourse has to stop. It's weakening the country and fraying our institutions.
