DH is insistent on traveling. I have a lot of anxiety about the virus and would rather not travel, but he is getting very upset. Not sure if any place is risk free and haven't schools opened up already in some states? Would a RV come sanitized if we drove it to a national park or something? I'm pretty sure I would not be able to sleep in a hotel or rental but also concerned about the RV. If it were up to me, I would just stay in NYC. WWYD?

I hate America right now and just want to go to another country. Sadly most countries are not letting Americans in or you need to quarantine 14 days. This sucks for the New Yorkers who survived hell and have worked hard to keep the virus rate down, we deserve a real vacation!
NYers are also fine in Massachusetts. Find a place in the Berkshires and hide out there.
Went to Maine earlier this summer and it was awesome. Everyone was very compliant in the Portland area. New York was exempted from quarantine list bc of our numbers as well!
I'm with your DH. We've been away for a few days and it has been soooo relaxing and calming and just overall good for all of us. We went 'glamping' and self-catered.
I say this in the nicest way but please work on your anxiety.
Would you camp? We went last weekend and it was surprisingly fun. NYS also has yurts at some parks--throw open the windows and don't use the AC. Transmission via fabrics is not really a thing.
The risk is overblown for healthy adults. Your DH is right.
why couldn't you sleep in a rental? wipe down high touch areas yourself when you get there and air it out. same for an RV if you prefer that.
Have either of you ever travelled by RV? It’s not very fun. Where does your DH want to go? Can you find a location that’s in driving distance and rent someplace for a week - preferably in a state with low Covid numbers?
I might get flamed for this, but I suggest sticking to the blue states. I too was reluctant to travel and DH talked me into it. We went to Vermont and it was great - everyone very careful, 100% mask compliance.
Editing to add that we staying in a boutique hotel that had big open windows and a very careful Covid protocol. I called ahead and asked about their HVAC system, cleaning etc and was reassured (and clearly it was fine - we've been back for a month and no one got sick).
