Thinking of ditching coloring my hair; haven’t done it since February. So time consuming and expensive. Maybe I will just wait until I can get it cut, have the still colored part chopped off, and try a short salt and pepper look. What would you do?
If you think you may like red, try henna. It doesn't cover perfectly, but on salt and pepper hair it will be very nice red. It's easy to do at home and cheap. It gives incredible shine too.
Covid has given me grey hairs and I'm just rolling with it. I haven't died my hair since my early 20s and I don't want to start now. I've got a very medium brown and don't want to highlight to hide the greys and I'm not a huge fan of home-died brown shades.

Don't do it - next you'll start wearing Eileen Fisher...capri pants...
I'm wearing EF pants now, super comfortable as I WFH on day 5,678... Never colored my hair, it's salt and pepper now and short, DH says he likes it, go upset a couple of months ago when he thought I said I was thinking of coloring it (I was musing on temporarily making the bangs pink...).
I stopped dyeing and straightening my hair. Also cut my own hair to chop off the Japanese straightened bottom parts. I had forgotten how curly my hair naturally is, and I am loving it now.
I'm letting mine go in part because my colorist is in California for the duration, but also because I've been interested in seeing what it would look like for a while and now pretty much only family and friends see it. My hair is long so it won't all be natural for awhile but at least I can see if I want to change my routine.
I tried it in April and felt DH was looking at me strangely. I did not like what I saw as well daily in the mirror, so started coloring again. It was sapping my confidence and my energy levels. I was starting to think that I am old and didnt want to be in that mindspace.
I noticed an elegant woman yesterday with a sleek chin-length silvery bob yesterday at the beach. It looked very nice. I agree with a pp who did that the rest of your look has to be very put-together if you decide to do this—hers was. I like the full silvery or salt and pepper look but I don’t like gray hairs poking out randomly, which is like what I have now.
Buy a cheap gray wig from Amazon for less than $20 in a flattering style to see what you will look like with gray hair. I had high hopes but hated how gray hair looked on me. Purchased a few other wigs in flattering colors to wear until I feel safe going to my stylist.
I tried dying my hair a few times when the grays just made my once chestnut hair look Mouseyirown. Im I’mbery verygray now. I dont don’tcare buy butthen again, im I’man aging hippie whonhas who hasnevrr neverbeen bery veryvein.
I am doing it. Stopped dying. before covid for health reasons. I have super curly hair so I feel like it never gets any longer or beyond gray roots. Lol. To compensate take great care of skin and always do makeup, dress well. I feel like you have to try a bit harder with gray transitioning hair to look put together. You can follow some insta people who are transitioning to get a sense of the process. FB has since groups too.
If you're going to do it, now is the time, since you don't have to spend a lot of time in public or at events with big grey roots. Personally, I have decided to continue coloring. I just feel like short, grey hair really ages a woman, and I'm not ready to look old.
Go for it! I'm too vain. I had a hair appointment the first week salons opened back up in June.
I've never colored my hair, salt and pepper now, which DH likes. And I'm super comfortable over here WFH in my Eileen Fisher pants!

Give it a try. You can always go back.

I do a few face framing highlights and just let the rest go.
