https://ubarchive.net/ has a list of some places people have scattered to, including
NYCityMoms.com, you are here (lookin' good!)
DC Urban Moms specifically the Metro NYC sub forum
urbanbaby.net a possible UB clone under construction by a UBer (nothing up yet)
Reddit.com/r/urbanbaby/ is live again as of yesterday, but not very active.
This is the most active right now, except vs. the YBM main board, which is its own thing.
Like others have said here, I appreciate the longer format on this site. I don't like, however, how I have to click on each link to read something. I liked the scroll feature of UB. Especially on my phone.
I also like that you can write a longer post, which facilitates deeper conversations. At UB, it seemed like if someone wrote more than a sentence or two, people wouldn't respond, or would complain. And there was a word limit anyway. This site seems more accepting of more detailed discussions.
I've been slow to move over but think I'm committed to staying here vs the other options. Miss everyone :-)
Youbemom moves too fast. It’s good for scrolling but doesnt seem great for actually trying to get some responses/engagement. I personally like DCUM because I already frequent it but I kind of toggle between all of them now in addition to this site.
YBM and UB co-existed for many years, so I don't think there's a problem with people being on both this site and YBM (or Reddit or whatever). It's not a competition -- they're just different. Personally, I like this site, and as former UB'ers find it and post more, it becomes more comfortable. Thank you, Mod.
I am getting used to this forum (it's like college confidential) and like YBM. I think Ubers who are turning their noses up at YBM would be like the Folgers taste Test--preconceived bias when it actually is pretty much the same thing. I think people who make blanket statements about YBM without spending time there are cherry picking posts to complain about.
Personally I prefer this forum. I also tried YBM before and decided it wasn’t for me. I do NOT think Reddit is a good choice—there are lots of things relating to women and women’s issues that we may not be able to discuss there because they violate their terms. Reddit heavily censors and shuts down feminist subreddits, for example. I think it’s best we have our own space here where we can make our own rules and police ourselves.
UBarchive maker here- do you think if I made a forum that worked just like UB used to work if people would use it, or has that ship sailed? it wouldn't be that hard, I've been messing around with some experiments... but I wonder if anyone would use it if they can't easily find it at urbanbaby.com. I could maybe do some search engine stuff to make it findable if people search urbanbaby, though.
(no insult to the Mod of this forum, it looks great and you did something so wonderful by getting it up in time for us to have somewhere to go!)
Thank you this is helpful. I tried youbemom and I found in incredibly try hard and not authentic
