What is the right thing to do? Attempts to discuss healthy eating fall on deaf ears. His school has no fall sports and he spends 12+ hours/day every day sitting in front of his computer because stupid remote learning. We don't have a lot of junk food in the house but he roams the kitchen at night and eats the least-healthy stuff he can find.
Part of me wants to say "hey, you're getting fat, cut it out" but I know that's probably not cool. Thoughts?
In your case, I'd go straight to the point : you're putting on weight, and I'm worried because it looks like you're depressed. I want to help you
Does he have any interest in cooking? I wonder if he would be willing to pick out recipes for meals he would like and maybe do the prep work or something. There are easy things teens can make, like a broccoli quiche or turkey/chicken hot dogs with a salad. Just thinking maybe he would like healthier eating if he were involved in it.
Remind him of what is healthy and not. My DS is a string bean but if he grabs 2 desserts in a day I will remind him that it's not healthy to eat too many sweets and explain why.
can he go biking daily to exercise or you can all go for a run in the evening? can be hard to motivate kids these days
