Can anybody recommend a summer camp that serves healthy food option instead of rotation of "happy meal" menu aka pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs and mac 'n' cheese? DC doesn't like any of these foods and I would hate to have him survive on plain bagel or plain pasta for 5-6 wks. This is NYC, surely I can't be the only parent of a child who enjoys vegetables, ethnic and nutritious food.
Call Asphalt Green and find out who they are using for lunch this summer. The last summer my child was there they had switched to a new vendor and it was exactly what you are looking for.
We were hoping to send him out of the city. He loves the country side and going on adventures and especially after this past year, I want him out of Manhattan but thank you for posting. I will keep it in mind if we change direction.
My DC is the same way and hated Ramapo camp for that reason. He would come home starving.
OP - we were looking at Ramapo, do they truly have nothing other than junk food or cold food (yogurt/bagel/etc)?
@Anonymous Basically nothing. It was insane. They gave the kids ice cream every day before the hour-plus bus ride home and there was nothing else. My kid wouldn't eat it because all the sugar on an empty stomach made him feel ill. He would come home so empty and cranky.
