DC and I have both been taking the subway since mid July when DC started going in for sports practice. I've gone in for work a few times and also to run errands and go to the doctors office. DC is starting in person school on Wed. and will take the subway. It's been generally pretty clean and not too crowded. Mask compliancy has been higher than I would have expected. Everyone naturally spreads out. Occasionally, the subway gets more crowded than I would like, but it's generally ok. You start by trying the subway during off hours, like 11-2 when it's not crowded. I find the 2/3 train more crowded. I like the B and Q because of the way the seats are laid out, people don't sit right next to you. R and N are ok too. The F train was way too slow.
NYT has an article saying that the subway is less safe now. True? The citizen app keeps sending me notifications in general of the crime in the city and I am appalled at the increase in crime in my own neighborhood. Not sure how its on the subways? Also I am scared of catching covid on the subway. I'm so disillusioned right now, doesn't seem to be a way out of covid. Wish I could relocate to New Zealand.
I haven't taken the subway but DS and friends do for school commuting. DH did for a meeting one day. Reports were that it was quiet, pretty empty and everyone wore a mask.
I've taken the 1/2/3 a handful of times and it was fine-- 95% of people wearing masks, clean, and not crowded. I haven't traveled during rush hour though. My DD also takes it to school every day and she's had nothing bad to report. We both carry mace, however, which we didn't do before.
I've been taking the subway a few times a week since July. Until recently, it was pretty empty, and I often got most or all of a subway car to myself. Today I took an A uptown and a 2 downtown in Manhattan, mid-day, and both were crowded. Not pressed-against-other-people crowded, but it was impossible to get 6 feet away from others, or even 3 feet. And while most people were wearing masks, I'd say about 10-20 percent were not, or had them pulled down around the chin.

I've been taking the subway to work and back since May. It's fine. Rush hour has gotten a bit more crowded lately.
Are there delays?
No more than pre-covid.

I haven’t noticed any difference in service or safety since I started taking the subway in July. Take the F, A, and R lines mostly.

My DH took the 6 the other morning and said it was pretty empty and people were wearing masks.

I took the F a few times and while there was space (off-hours) about 25% of the people had their mask off or below the nose.
