It's not so much about the $$ as it is about the security of our jobs. Money-wise, we are just fine with anything above $200k. But both DH and I work in somewhat insecure professions, so I don't know that I ever feel truly secure.
I had to pay my house off to feel financially secure. Just needed to know that there is no pressure.
Im just starting to feel secure now that I have a good amount saved/invested, my house is paid off, and we are almost done with needing a nanny. But I'm extreme money worrier. My good friend says I've been reincarnated from someone who lived through the depression :)
We are just under 200k and are doing really well without my income/ no nanny costs.!
I agree. It’s so much about lifestyle. We left the city and are FT at the beach. housing costs are much lower, kids in public schools. We are in the best financial position of our lives (which i don’t take lightly given how others are faring during the pandemic). But it’s because we have NYC salaries and are living out of NYC Metro. Would we feel the same if we never achieved those salaries in the first place? Hard to say
