Plenty of people (=shs) are being pressed to sign up for remote, and we’ve all been over this before, but [helpless yawp of protest]
Yesterday 100 parents showed up for a last-minute call for the whole grade. Turns out the teachers had gathered us JUST to ask everyone to opt into remote. That’s not the school’s line, so they are going out on their own.
The ask is: Please reject in-person services that could keep you afloat, keep you sane, reduce the kids’ trauma, and keep them developing on track. Plus academics. Really it’s for your own good. Really we would prefer not to deliver those services. Services no one will likely get a chance to receive anyway.
With masks and thermometers and distancing, school won’t be that fun anyway. (Don’t mess with me.)
Signing up for remote will be a protest against unsafe conditions and the city’s bad crisis management. (The mayor will not notice my withdrawal.)
Putting resources into making our hybrid program good hurts kids whose hybrid programs are bad. (?! I guess by proceeding with hybrid at all vs. trying to have it canceled? Agree to disagree.)
I don’t blame the teachers for their urge toward self-preservation! Just for their bad understanding of their audience and their bad sales tactics.
It’s fine! Cancel school! We all know it’s going to get canceled. Just don’t ask ME to cancel it.
Bad situation all around. Obviously.
