I'm kinda over remote learning classes but I saw one on Outschool that my kid might like. Has anyone tried it? Don't want to subject my kid to more screen time if it's not worth it.
I love out school. My DD does a weekly fitness class and we have done some one-off classes on subjects that she is interested in. A lot of my friends use it and love it. Most classes are relatively cheap so you don't have much to lose!
I had my DD do a bunch of Outschool classes so she would be comfortable with zoom for K zoom interviews. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the classes were very good and she enjoyed them.
We have done a bunch - science, art, and a few holiday-related classes. Check the reviews and number of classes taught by the teacher. Like anything else, there are some really great classes and some are duds.
We’ve done a ton over the summer when DC and I have been holed up in nyc apt (me working, DC out schooling). I was skeptical since his spring remote schooling at his preK was only ok but he loved it and really engaged. Some classes he was alone or with just one or two other kids so it was pretty much private/semi-private. If you’re have a particular one you are considering feel free to post, he may have taken it or taken different class with the same teacher.
We LOVE Outschool. It is so much better than "regular" remote school I think because it is an established platform that existed well before the pandemic pushed us all into this situation. We try to go with teachers on there that have a lot of reviews and have been using the platform since before last March. These are teachers who have really honed their virtual teaching technique and believe in it. My son has taken writing, math, cooking (oh my gosh he had the most amazing cooking class experience on there!), and also a few purely social classes. (The social class he loved the most was actually with a newer teacher on there so take my above statement of using established teachers with a grain of salt!)
