we Recently gave 7th grade dd social media access. The trade off is that I get to check her stuff when ever I want. I just am somewhat appalled by the posts! The kids are all “fast” the girls with the poses and the boys with their talk of female bodies. It is awful.

Sounds like you better delete the apps.
I decided to wait till 8th on social for both of my kids. I'm not always a great parent but it was the best decision I ever made. I'm always shocked by what other kids are doing on social and how parents could allow (or not be aware of). Even if you think your kid's account is private, other kids record it. Much trouble comes from it, better not to have anything online for posterity from your tween/teen years
Is there really that much difference between 7th and 8th?
@anonymous yes. by then if they haven't been on they start to hear the downside and no longer care. if they have been on by that point they're addicted.
Many DS tossed from my DCs' schools for bad posts in Sixth and Seventh Grades. Not so much earlier or later. It's probably a stage.
