I’m married to a native New Yorker and I’ve been here 24 years. Have not had any intention to leave the city throughout all of this. But taking the subway pretty regularly now for work and Every Single Time I’m on a train or platform I see multiple disturbed, mentally ill homeless people who are approaching others or seem as though any minute they could be dangerous to be around. That coupled with the fact that my DH still hasn’t been able to get a job since being put out of work and the unemployment benefits about to run out for him....normally I’m an optimistic person but I’m starting to fear for what the next few months will hold.
It's so tough. Hang in there. The vaccine will be here soon and things will definitely be better after that. There is light at the end of the tunnel. And this time it's an actual light and not a train coming . . .
Deblasio will be out by the end of next year. Hopefully we'll get someone with a clue.
Think of how those mentally ill people must feel...
Obviously it’s a very sad situation, I’m not dismissing what they’re going through. But to be honest I’m not thrilled about the idea of my kids riding the subway by themselves to go to school when someone (as I saw today) starts going up and screaming in people’s faces or (as I saw last week) someone gets up and pees and poops in the middle of a fairly crowded train. Not a good quality of life for everyone involved.
@PSM OMG. that is so awful. So, so awful. and it's dangerous. Mentally ill people are just that - mentally ill. and therefore unpredictable, and sometimes dangerous.
