We just got an update from our private nyc school that a staff member tested positive so they don’t know when they’ll open. If an adult is positive already that makes me really nervous to go back at all
Not trying to troll. Our school in Chicago opened two weeks ago. A staff member tested positive the day before it opened. Our school did a good job planning and this staff member -a teacher - had only been around her assistant. No contact with other teachers and staff. All school meetings, etc., were done over zoom. The teacher shoukd be eligible to come back this week. I would question your school‘s plan. At a minimum, they will need to delay 2 weeks if this staff person was around a bunch of others.

I would be more concerned that one positive staff member is enough to delay your reopening. Doesn’t your school have guidance in place for when it will shut down a pod, the school etc based on the number of confirmed positives at any given time? I’m assuming the plan wasn’t to shut down at one case so why are they stopping the reopening? Something else is going on. We are in the middle of a pandemic. Positives are to be expected. That’s the whole point of the pods. To prevent the spread from going too far so everyone else can keep learning.
Which school?
if they haven't already opened then why does it matter?

This! Staff members should not have been mixing freely! This school needs to rethink its plan if one positive can shut the whole place down.
if school hasnt started why cant this teacher quarantine for however long is necessary to recover? why would the opening have to be delayed??
My guess would be that the teachers have already been onsite for work week(s) and so others may now need to be tested.
is this in Manhattan? preschool or elementary/ongoing?
Yes downtown elementary school
