I don't have any personal political agenda in saying this, but we have been allowing protests. So, "no parades or large gatherings except for protests" would be more accurate.
@MidtownMom I would say the distinction is 'formally planned" versus organically planned events. The government has, however, successfully policed some organic gatherings.
You're right, protesting the extra-judicial killing of people of color by those we pay with our tax dollars to protect and serve us is FAR LESS IMPORTANT than a parade of giant balloons.
Oh yeah, we won't have parades or large gatherings (unless you're a trump cultist) for probably another year+.

@Anonymous The city can control whether or not to have a parade. They can't control the protests. But, I hear what you're saying.

I'd file this in the short "positive things to come out of Covid" column, personally.
Awwww

I'm having a hard time imagining a virtual parade that would be worth watching.
He said no parade but Macy's will do something else. Maybe the case of Hamilton can zoom in for something. Lol
I've never had any desire to go to the Thanksgiving parade. Too crowded and cold!
I swear just last week they were saying on Today that it was still on! Makes sense that it's not, though.
Maybe they will just do balloons at some massive football field or Javitz Center or something with no spectators allowed...
Pathetic. Protesting is fine though.

But protests were encouraged. Huh, funny.
