Has anyone here lived in NO, or knows anyone who lives there? How is daily life, schools, culture etc.? How is the office culture in general, compared to NYC? Also salaries and taxes?
It was clear that she was unhappy and picking up on his lack of interest. Lots of us wax and wane within a relationship without resorting to infidelity or murder.
New Orleans is an interesting place. Good food, music. But it can be very provincial (when people ask you where you went to school, they mean high school). It's very affordable for a city. Anyone who can sends their kids to private school, though there are some great public magnets.
There is less hustle than nyc. You are not going to strike it rich here. It‘s called the northern most Caribbean city for a reason. The sewage and water board isn’t the most functional. You may pay $600k for a 3 bedroom home uptown and still have a massive pot hole in the middle of your street.
If you are ok with the city being a dysfunctional then you will be ok here. If you are expecting north east efficiency, you will be disappointed.
There are a a couple of good publics. Orleans parish is entirely charter schools. So you may get into an “A” rated school but it may not be in your neighborhood. You’ll probably have to consider catholic school. Jesuit is all boys/catholic and the best in the city at the moment. It has the most national merit scholars. My fil does harvard admissions interviews and he is saying jesuit is the best over public Ben franklin. If you want non religious, you can look into mcgehee/Newman/country day. They are around 25k a year so less than nyc privates.
My kid is a baby so we haven’t done schools yet.
I love the culture here. The music/food is great. People are friendly. Someone may talk to you in the grocery store line for example.
All my friends here are from elementary school so it maybe some work to break into a friend circle.
You can always join a Mardi Gras krewe. I would suggest tucks. That one is fun and easy to get into.
