I am in very good general health, 52 (today). I have had some issues w nausea on and off for about 2 months now. I eat extremely well, no sugar, I exercise several times a week...
I could only make an appointment with a GI doctor in late January. I have no other symptoms and since I am a worrier I was just hoping maybe an MD mom here could reassure me. I started feeling queasy again yesterday around noon and it went on pretty much until bedtime (had a very light meal at dinner - only toast and some tea). Then had a normal breakfast around 11 today (scrambled egg, toast and a small piece of cheese) and it started again around 1pm...Could it simply be some acid? I take no medications (although I have taken some antacids in the past for short periods of time) I wonder if I should try with one OTC or just wait until late January, until I can talk to the doctor. Just frustrating and I am avoiding googling anything, because it would make me worry more. Thanks for reading and happy holidays to everyone.
Happy Birthday!!! I bet you can get a telemedicine appointment next week. Or maybe even tomorrow -- look on ZocDoc. Just give yourself the gift of peace of mind and see someone sooner than later. GL!
In the meantime, start keeping a very detailed log about when you start to feel sick. Exactly what you were doing before, what it feels like, where you feel it, what you ate that day -- as detailed as you can make it. The answer is somewhere in there, most likely.
Thank you! I tried to make the best of my birthday... I am keeping a very detailed log, hope it will help.
@Anonymous Maybe also note how you were feeling given others' suggestions. So log what your emotions were. Were you stressed? hungry? lonely? sad? tired? anxious? tired?keep a log. A pattern will emerge and you WILL find the answer. GL to you.
Could it be anxiety? I have terrible stomach pains and nausea when I’m severely anxious.
op- I am very anxious in general, but also going through a lot of stress (on top of pandemic) right now... maybe. But sometimes it happens when I think I am perfectly relaxed. I hope it's something minor. Thank you
I've been dizzy lately , assume it's stress
It can certainly be anxiety/stress. I had a nasty bout of nausea and heartburn a year ago. Had it scoped and nothing was really wrong. I was already in therapy, so we focused on dealing with the anxiety and learning to relax. I also use relaxation meditations. I'm about 200% better. Best wishes, OP.
I developed panic attacks a few years ago and nausea plays a huge part in them. It could definitely be anxiety. When you feel the first HINT of nausea, try to do things to calm yourself down. For me, that's verbalizing my fears and talking about what's most likely to happen and how I'll handle my fears if they come true. And/or controlled breathing (count to ten for both in and out, and repeat). I would see a GP but you might always want to talk to a therapist. I've learned a lot about self-awareness over being in therapy for the last year. I don't have any huge problems, but I have learned to be AWARE of my stress and then I can catch it before it results in health issues like panic attacks.
op- thank you, this makes a lot of sense. It has still been here (the nausea) although light, all last night and part of today... I am trying to focus on other things.
