When do people start getting “feedback” from their preschool directors? Do schools like Trinity, Dalton have communicate the “no’s“ or a positive interest in Nov/Dec, or do they normally wait until January? Assume non-legacy, non-sib DC.
I think it is very difficult to get positive interest now because they are still seeing candidates; it's just not meaningful at this point. But it is certainly possible to get negative feedback/functional rejects this early.
Feedback varies and I agree with previous poster, the only firm one is the negative one (“not in the running”). It gets more specific in Jan and Feb and gets tweaked up until the last minute. GL!
We had preliminary feedback from both those schools before winter break. If you were out, you were out. Positive feedback got more and more specific into January when it was time to write letters.
OP: We know they'll be observing DC at some point (probably sooner rather than later, before schools inevitably shut down). I guess I was just wondering if we would be able to go into winter break with any intel. Sounds like only if it's a "no", and even then we might not hear.
Also trying to manage this with how/when to communicate any preferences with PSD, since submitting a list of preferences is pretty worthless if your top choices don't want you.
We had enough info going into winter break that the director said to come back in early January with the order of our top 3. You can’t really communicate your preferences without knowing you’re in the running. I mean you can, it just doesn't mean much.
Schools observed in January if they were interested. That’s one of the unknowns this year- are they rushing to observe? Everyone? Only those they’re interested in? 🤷🏻♀️
I didn't even realize there was this secondary layer to the admissions process! So we're at "connected" preschool, should I assume that I'll need to send my PSD a list of our top K choices and she'll kind of run interference with the schools and see who really wants our daughter?
Also: what's the deal with sending first choice letters? Is that necessary? We don't really have a top choice as of now.
If you are at connected preschool, PSD should be asking for your school ranking. at our preschool PSD didn’t need first choice vs 2nd place vs 3rd, we just gave top 3 in no particular order. DC wasn’t out of running anywhere but I’m assuming you are told before you rank. No point in ranking the school no 1 if they are not interested.
Just seeing this thread—very helpful, wish I had seen it back in Nov! For us, it’s been radio silence, but our PSD knows our top 3. Anybody else heard or hearing anything from theirs?

only Dalton gives immediate feedback, and you can only believe it if it's negative. Where are you applying?

Who knows what it’ll be like this year.

To the point raised above, heading into winter break, was the info you received good feedback, bad feedback or both?

Haven't heard anything from our PSD. We're sending out three "love letters" on Monday, so I guess we'll see if anything happens after that?
Why wouldn’t you wait until hearing that any of the three are interested before sending?
@Anonymous Just following what our PSD said to do!
