It is definitely not true that 900 teachers and 800 students in NYC have contracted Covid IN SCHOOL. The in school spread rates are far lower than general population spread rates. Have 900 teachers and 800 students contracted COVID as a general matter, including during the period in Spring before any measures were in place? That is definitely possible but does not tell you anything about in person school.
There are 300,000 students in person right now plus a number of teachers that I don't know. Yesterday BdB said that 1,700 tests had come back positive so those numbers seem right.
79 teachers / administrators died through June from covid so yes, I think mathematically that’s the low end of cases.

But saying that "teachers/administrators died through June from Covid" is highly misleading. Those deaths had nothing to do with their roles as teachers or administrators because they were not teaching in person at all during that time (the link discusses deaths from March 16 through June 2020). It's like saying 500 lawyers have died from Covid. I'm sure that's true but the deaths have nothing to do with their roles as lawyers.
Our school has notified us about 3 Covid cases among students - and noted that there was "no risk of exposure." Why? THE KIDS WERE REMOTE. Why does the school notify us about the health status of remote kids? No idea. Apparently they're required to, per the DOE.
Also, it seems that the kids who are NOT in school have a higher incidence of exposure!
