Some of you have been helping me with the babysitter situation. We have some candidates -- yay! We were planning to send a contract to one who let us know she's pregnant - just coming out of the first trimester in a few days. Should I be worried about this? Her choice to work, of course, but I feel uncertain about the risk involved with asking someone to come daily when they are pg in a pandemic. Not sure how much it increases her risk since we are super careful, though surely it must. Her dh would drop her off on his way to work, so no public transport, and she's young, but still. Am I overthinking this? Or is this all perfectly fine to hire this person?
is this for a babysitter or a nanny? makes a difference imo
Given the number of hours, nanny is a totally fine description. How does that change your view?
I am pregnant right now, and not going to be able to get the vaccine until after I give birth (there is a risk of fever as a reaction). My concern with her would be that same thing--she can't get it right now most likely. Would rather have someone who can and would get the vaccine as soon as it is available. On the other hand though, she might be really good bc she would consider it good practice. Other than that, she probably can't lift or reach things the way a normal person can but that may not really be an issue.
I'm curious if this is your personal approach to vaccines, or if a physician counseled you against this. I'm an MD and most of my pregnant colleagues have opted for the vaccine at the encouragement of their obstetricians, midwives, etc. In fact, ACOG policy is that COVID-19 vaccines should NOT be withheld from pregnant individuals who meet criteria for vaccination, especially because pregnancy puts the mother at higher risk for COVID-associated complications.

@Anonymous OR, thank you for this! My OB is against due to the fever risk. I actually would want to take it. I had a bad reaction to the flu shot though, so that could be part of it. I'll talk to her again.
